THE Inverness branch of Samaritans has been celebrating its unpaid workers this week as part of National Volunteers Week.

With 40 volunteers, it offers support to people going through a difficult time in their lives, providing training, talks and awareness-raising activities.

Branch director Keith Walker said they were thankful to everyone contributing to the charity’s “life-saving work”.

He added: “Without volunteers, we simply wouldn’t be able to support people who are in need.”

Over the past year, the branch has led an outreach initiative, aimed at more rural and remote areas, and a wider programme to prevent suicide in the Highlands by chairing the multi-agency suicide prevention group, which includes NHS Highland, Police Scotland, Highland Council and other organisations.
