Primary pupils and their teachers were among those hardest hit during the pandemic with schools closed and children and their teachers having to learn and teach from home.

Through Highland Heroes 2022 we want to thank our pupils and teachers for their amazing efforts over the past 18 months.

The Heroes award for primary school pupil will go to a youngster who has achieved something beyond expectations in education, sport or helping others at school. The primary school teacher of the year will be given to a teacher who has made a significant difference, beyond the normal expectations, to the learning experience of their pupils.

Sponsoring the award for primary school pupil of the year is Inverness solicitors and estate agents Innes & Mackay. Laura Cormack, director at Innes & Mackay, said: “We’re delighted to be continuing our support for the Highland Heroes campaign in 2022 and sponsoring the award for primary pupil of the year.

“Innes & Mackay has sponsored the campaign for several years, and it is always inspiring to hear about the achievements of all our incredible Highland residents. The past 18 months have been challenging for everyone – but especially for young people, who have found their school and personal lives upended at such an important, formative moment in their lives.

“The way our youngest school pupils have rallied and adapted to the ‘new normal’ has been amazing. Primary pupils have been there for each other and for their families, and deserve to be recognised for their achievements. We encourage everyone to get behind the campaign and nominate primary pupils and other heroes in their communities, to join together and celebrate the remarkable people that make up the Highlands.”

Ptarmigan Homes is sponsoring the award for primary school teacher of the year.

Sales and marketing manager at Ptarmigan Homes, Angela Roy, said: “As we grow, our lives are shaped by those who teach us. The importance of this role is invaluable and will impact our entire lives, not only our childhood.

“Ptarmigan Homes is a family business who wholly believe in recognising the importance this can make, and as such, want to recognise and reward those primary teachers who are making a positive impact to our children’s futures through valuing each child’s unique abilities and encouraging them to grow.

“Children are our future and primary teachers are unequivocally the early driving force of their success. To help children develop their own skills and celebrate their success in the early years will inevitably establish a healthy mind set for the future.”
