Inverness fish and chip shops are travelling back to the heart of the Highlands with several accolades.

The Scottish Fish & Chip Awards were held in Glasgow last night (November 11), which saw the Angry Seagull, The Redshank and Dougie’s Chippy all coming home with awards.

The Angry Seagull Fish & Chips was crowned the best mobile fish and chips.

Owner Grant MacNicol said: “We are absolutely delighted”

“There were 10 other food trucks in the running so we are buzzing.

“We had been in the running for best family chip shop too and there were big hitters in that!

“These are awards are a proper ceremony and they come and try your food. You don’t just get a prize for turning up!”

The Redshank, based in Victorian Market and with a mobile unit, was crowned best chip shop in the north of Scotland.

Having started in 2018, the business has grown from strength-to-strength thanks to husband and wife team Jamie and Ann Marie Ross.

He started out as a chef at 15 and then spent time in the fish sector, which has provided him with the links to be able to source local, sustainable, good produce.

Dougie’s Chippy on Millburn Road was given the accolade of best newcomer.

Having started working at Conon chip shop when he was 12 years old, Dougie Mackenzie has always been in the trade.

His dream has always been to have his own place and in 2023 that became a reality.

The family-run takeaway has become a firm favourite with locals in the area thanks to its food and outstanding team.
