Hundreds of vehicles and thousands of spectators are expected to descend on Nairn on Saturday for an event now in its fourth year.

Wheels of Nairn - which will take place at the Links on Saturday, September 21 - will showcase around 300 vehicles in 17 different classes.

The event is sponsored by Nairn Car Sales and this year includes new categories such as campervans and 4x4s, tractors and agricultural vehicles and rally and competition vehicles.

Organised by Nairn Connects BID, Wheels of Nairn first took place in 2019 and has been increasing in popularity ever since.

Nairn BID manager Lucy Harding said: “Wheels of Nairn is growing every year and we work closely with Highland Council to ensure that we put on an entertaining and safe event.

“We have increased the number of entries this year to 300, and actually had to shut down registration for the event earlier than planned as we reached capacity very quickly.

“We are already thinking ahead to next year about how we can increase the capacity as there is a huge demand from people wanting to showcase their vehicles at this event.”

She added: “Wheels of Nairn attracts people from all over the country. Last year, we had people travelling from as far away as Kent and this year we have an entrant coming all the way from Cardiff.

“These people don’t just come for the day, they stay in Nairn and spend money and time in our beautiful shops, restaurants and bars.

“This event really has put Nairn on the map to an audience outside of our geographical area.”

As well as the vehicles, the event will also boast stalls, children’s entertainment and a number of food vendors.

“It really is a great day out for everyone,” Lucy said. “And the location, right next to Nairn’s central beach, is sensational.

“Whilst there is plenty to do at the event itself, we do urge visitors to take a walk along the promenade, stroll up the river and into the town where we have so many amazing businesses.

“The event runs from 10am to 3pm, so there is plenty of time to enjoy what is on offer at the Links and have a good explore of the town as well.”

Dean Clark from Nairn Car Sales, which has supported Wheels of Nairn since its first year, said: “We are thrilled to be involved again and it just goes to show there is a huge thirst for events like these.

“Wheels of Nairn is well organised, puts the spotlight on so many stunning vehicles and showcases our great town.

“We are more than happy to be involved and put our name to it.”

The event is also supported by Nairn Rotary Club, Nairn Academy and other groups in the town who provide volunteers and, once again the entrants will be looked after by popular bakery Makes By Megs who will be supplying them with complimentary tea and cake.

“We could not run this event without the support of the volunteers and sponsors,” Lucy said.

“We have sponsors for each of the categories, businesses giving prizes and of course the support of a team of volunteers without whom the event could not run.”
