What is the future for Inverness bicycle cafe Velocity as it fails to open for business?

Velocity at 1 Crown Avenue at the top of Stephen’s Brae is a normally busy vegan eatery that doubles as a bicycle service and repair workshop.

The social enterprise which has been based in Inverness since 2012, majors on promoting health, wellbeing and sustainability, and it is a popular venue for groups holding meetings on such “green” issues.

On Thursday morning a small group had gathered outside in anticipation of holding their weekly coffee gathering there at 10am. They were obviously disappointed but planned diverting to Costa Coffee nearby.

One window pane of the premises has for some days been showing what looks like an external attack.

No one could be seen in the cafe but there was a man in the next door bike workshop. He said “no comment” when asked if the place was shutting down.

There was a similar “No comment” from a member of the Velocity board who was called for a comment.

Earlier this year, Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop won £7,261 from Inverness Common Good Fund towards the Cycle to Health project which is aimed at people in Inverness area who would like to cycle more for short everyday journeys and who would benefit from support to develop skills and confidence due to experience of poor mental health, social isolation, low confidence, or other barriers connected with poverty or deprivation.
