They received wellbeing packs, designed to support them in light of the impact of coronavirus on mental and physical health.

The Community Planning Partnership’s Mental Health Delivery Group carried out a survey in March, asking young people how their lives had been impacted by coronavirus, and what could help them in the future.

Of the 777 young people asked, 84 per cent said their life had been affected by the pandemic.

The wellness packs are being tested out in Inverness High School, to see how successful and popular they will be before being implemented throughout the Highlands.

The packs were funded by the Inverness Common Good Fund and Skills Development Scotland. They include a mindfulness colouring book, pencil case and pencils, baking goods, a water bottle, stress toys, craft kits, and invites to holiday activities.

High Life Highland will be asking for feedback on the kits, so they can assess what was useful and what can be improved.

Highland Council education committee chairman John Finlayson said: “It is great to hear that wellbeing packs are making their way into the hands of pupils across the Inverness High School area.

“We look forward to receiving feedback from the pilot and measuring the success of the packs.

“The physical and mental wellbeing of our pupils remains a top priority.

“We continue to work closely with schools to encourage and improve the health of all those who attend our schools while also learning from the many positive initiatives that already take place in so many of our educational settings across Highland.”
