Inverness Sheriff and High Court round-up: Man (30) faces charges of murdering his mother, man charged with road traffic offence for A96 bus crash, 22-year-old man found guilty of raping teenage girl





It was a very busy week for courts in Inverness.

Here is our weekly roundup of the most prominent cases:

Inverness man faces charges of murdering his mother and attempting to murder another man

A 30-year-old man has appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court accused of murdering his mother and attempting to murder another man with knives.

Thomas Fraser, from Inverness, who was represented by his solicitor Marc Dickson, made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody by Sheriff Eilidh Macdonald.

Highland teenager with ‘anger problem’ beat man to death

A teenager punched and kicked a man to death in a frenzied attack because he thought a woman was being sexually assaulted.

The youth was 15 at the time of the June 17, 2023 assault in a garden in Alness's Milnafua housing estate, but was aged 17 when he appeared before Lord Arthurson in the High Court in Inverness to admit the culpable homicide of Scott Mitchell (48), a BT engineer, also from Alness.

Highland man (22) found guilty of raping teenage girl in Inverness

A convicted domestic abuser who sexually assaulted a drunk teenage girl in a guest house has been jailed after jurors convicted him of rape.

Cameron Huggins (22), preyed on the 16-year-old - who cannot be named for legal reasons - in accommodation in Inverness on April 10, 2023.

A 24-year-old man has appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court accused of the attempted murder of his partner or ex-partner.

Josh Mclaren, from Inverness, was represented by local solicitor John MacColl who made no plea on his client's behalf. McLaren was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

A man has been charged following a crash involving a Stagecoach bus and NHS Highland van that left three people in hospital.

The crash, which occurred on the A96 between Elgin and Alves at around 1pm on Tuesday, May 20, left both vehicles off the road and demolished a drystane wall.
