Heading towards Watten on the A882 you might believe for a moment that you're in a prehistoric landscape where giant birds roam about.

There's no chance of being pecked to death by these birds though as they're just a couple of trees on the edge of a field that resemble a mother bird coming to feed her chick.

The phenomenon is known as a "simulacrum" – a representation or imitation of a person or thing – and there are many examples around us if you look carefully enough.

The "seal pup" or "manatee" look-alike featured below was spotted hovering over Wick some years ago and the image was published in several daily papers.

Have you come across a simulacrum and captured a photograph? Please share images, specifying date, location and what you think the object looks like. A selection could be featured in a future publication. Send email with attached images to david.scott@hnmedia.co.uk
