Scottish Water has apologised to customers and businesses in Inverness which were affected by a loss of supply this morning.

Service was restored to the majority of those affected before noon today after water supplies in the IV2 postcode area were hit.

Businesses in the Eastgate Shopping Centre were left without water from before 9am and it is understood that Morrisons as well as properties in the Victoria Drive area were also affected.

A spokesman for Scottish Water said: "We would like to apologise to customers and businesses who were affected by a burst water main in the Millburn Road area of Inverness this morning.

"Our engineers responded quickly and have re-routed water supplies through unaffected parts of the local water network. This allowed supply to be restored to the great majority of affected customers before noon.

"A team is on site to excavate the damaged water main and complete the necessary repair in order to return the network to normal operation as soon as possible."

While the network fault was being repaired Scottish Water was warning customers that they could experience "no water supply, low or intermittent pressure or discoloured water".

Anyone who has experienced flooding due to the incident, and is in need of support, is advised to contact Scottish Water on 0800 0778 778.
