WATCH: The 2024 Loch Ness 24 – in pictures

Hundreds of runners donned head-torches as they ran through the night in a 24-hour challenge on the shores of Loch Ness at the weekend.

Taking place for the third year, the Loch Ness 24 has become a popular fixture for enthusiasts looking to push themselves and to soak up the unique atmosphere of the event.

The 24-hour format involves runners completing as many four-mile laps as they can in the time, with competitors entering either as solo runners or in pairs, small teams of three to five people or large teams of six to eight.

The winner of the men’s solo race, Grant Thompson, completed 26 laps, while women’s winner Angela Davidson finished 24.

The Jogglers – for runners who juggle while they run – competed in the small teams category and continued juggling through the night with light-up balls.

Nessie got things under way at 10am on Saturday from the start at Aldourie, leading runners around the first part of the course before the runners started to clock up their laps.

During the night, parts of the forest were lit up as well as the Hollywood-style Loch Ness 24 sign on the hillside behind the campsite, where participants and their supporters stayed for the weekend.
