Local residents Donald MacFadyen and Sandra Lee, two veterans of the swim, first made a splash in the late 1940s, and had the honour of setting the swimmers on their way with the sounding of the starting horn.

Soren Young, a 14-year-old professional swimmer from Auchterarder, was the first out of the water with a time of 19 minutes and one second.
