A crazed driver was caught on camera mounting an Inverness city centre pavement to skip a traffic queue and speed through a red light.

The highly-dangerous manoeuvre was filmed on dashcam by stunned taxi driver William MacKay, who was in one of the cars waiting for the lights to change.

The shocking incident last Wednesday at 11.05 am happened on Crown Road approaching the Eastgate Centre junction with Millburn Road.

Mr Mackay’s car is seen approaching the lights and drawing to a halt in rainy conditions, with traffic in front of him for some reason failing to move despite a green light.

Within seconds, the driver of the blue Toyota Auris veers inside onto the pavement and accelerates past the waiting cars, ignoring a white car to his left waiting to turn onto the street.

The driver then speeds through the red lights, where it turns left towards Academy Street and disappears out of view.

Thankfully, there appear to have been no pedestrians walking on the pavements at the time.

Mr MacKay posted on Facebook: “I've seen all sorts of poor driving in Inverness, but this one takes the Mick.

“Anyone know the driver? Can’t be bothered to wait at traffic lights?”

Outraged social media users condemned the highly-irresponsible act

Ronald Johnston wrote: “What an absolute disgrace, report the driver.”

Andrew MacCoinnich added: “Do they actually still do tests in Inverness or do you just get your license now?”

Darren Chisholm wrote: “Unfortunately there are more and more people jumping red lights.

"It gets worse all the time people just don’t care as long as they save that half second to get to their locations.”
