A RUNAWAY emu has been caught on film sprinting along the A82 near Loch Ness.

Professional mountain bike racer Greg Williamson, of Inverness, captured the hilarious moment while he was sitting in traffic south of Fort Augustus.

"From a distance, I could see the traffic was being held up," he 27-year-old said. "Then the emu just came running alongside from the opposite direction. It was going at quite speed and there were lots of cars behind it.

"I just grabbed my phone and started filming. It was quite funny."

Mr Williamson, who had been for a practice session in Fort William ahead of competing in world cup races in Slovenia next week, said the traffic started moving soon afterwards.

"We were held up but not for too long," he said.

He understood the emu had escaped from a nearby farm.
