Inclusion for all pupils is a favourite topic for Lawrence Sutherland who has retired as head teacher at Cradlehall Primary School in Inverness.

After 20 years in the post at the 320-pupil school – the place where he also began his career as a probationary teacher in 1986 – he has many happy memories ranging from school trips abroad to Burns suppers.

Asked about what his vision has been for the school, he said he has attempted – with what he described as a fantastic team – to try to provide an education that was as rich and diverse and relevant as possible for each child.

In his spare time, Mr Sutherland is a keen enthusiast of restoring vintage buses and holds a bus driver's licence as well as being involved in the restoration of a vintage Highland mobile shop.

He said he will miss the "spirit-lifting interactions" with pupils.
