WATCH: ‘It’s the heart of Scotland’- Public react to cancellation of Inverness Hogmanay event

Tourists have reacted to the annual Red Hot Highland Fling, Hogmanay event being axed for 2024.

Highland Council broke the news about the Inverness event this morning, citing limited access to the Northern Meeting Park and Bught Park as key factors.

Both venues are currently subject to major revamps and improvements, and the council said that the “increased costs for infrastructure” that would be needed to work around that disruption had made the event too costly for 2024 - and it had to take the “very difficult decision” to axe it this year.

When asking what the public thought about the cancelled staple event, one person said: “I don’t think it’s okay because it’s such an important part of Scottish tradition. It needs to happen in the capital of the Highlands and it will definitely reduce the amount of tourists when they know it's been cancelled.”

While another person was concerned about the effects of tourism, said: “I think it’s sad because the Scottish culture is why we are here as tourists.”

Another person added: “It brings in a lot of tourists, so it’s not very fair and it’s the heart of Scotland.”
