HIGHLAND strongmen brothers Luke and Tom Stoltman challenged each other to see who could eat a new giant cone named in their honour the fastest.

The Stoltman is the brainchild of Richard Simpson, owner of Simpsons Ice Cream in Buckie which supplies Castle Cones in Inverness’s High Street.

With each mighty creation holding five scoops of ice cream Luke was crowned “king of the cones” after demolishing his in an impressive six minutes and 31 seconds while Tom took slightly longer, taking eight minutes and 47 seconds to finish his off.

The brothers have now issued a challenge to see if anyone else can manage it faster.

Mr Simpson said: “We ran a competition to choose the name and that coincided with Tom Stoltman winning the World’s Strongest Man title, and a couple of people had suggested ‘The Stoltman’ so it made absolute sense to me to name it after them.

“I got in touch with them to ask if it was OK for us to use their name and they seemed delighted, and then decided to come in and take on the challenge.

“It must have given them a sore head eating it so quickly – my son tried it yesterday and it took him 30 minutes to finish it!

“These guys are doing great, they are local lads, and they are performing at a world level.

“I am a big strongman fan myself so it totally made sense to me to promote them.

“You get a lot of visitors from all around the world in the shop and and it would be good for them to see a little something interesting.”

After a series of brain freeze moments Luke said: “If you guys want to come over to take the challenge, come down to Castle Cones and see if anyone can beat our time. “

He added: “I don’t think anyone can! But if anyone does beat me, I will give you my personal congratulations.”
