Walter, a conservator with LTM Group, has been working for the past two months on its restoration.

Standing in the grounds of the castle, it has become a much-photographed emblem of the city.

“I enjoy doing this kind of work in this beautiful place,” Walter said.

His intention is to make the statue ready for future generations to enjoy.

It comes after Muirtown Primary pupil Lucy named Flora’s dog Cuillin in a competition aimed at getting youngsters engaged in the castle project.

The castle is due to reopen later this year.
