Representatives of the Scottish Ambulance Service, Scottish Fire and Rescue, Police Scotland, HM Coastguard and NHS Highland gathered in Inverness to mark the 72nd anniversary of the NHS.

They stood silently beside their vehicles – which had blue lights flashing – outside Raigmore Hospital.

A spokeswoman for NHS Highland said it was to acknowledge the amazing work of health and care staff and all key workers during the pandemic as well as recognising the anniversary.

"Many people will have experienced difficult times during these months, so with the help of our emergency services colleagues we want to show appreciation and shine a light on the unwavering dedication of all key workers, and to say thank you," she said.

"In this 72nd anniversary year, our NHS has responded in ways it has never had to before to deal with the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. And it continues to respond in remarkable ways with our staff showing extraordinary commitment and dedication."
