Parents, carers, and young people across Inverness have the chance to find out more about apprenticeships at a free upcoming event from Skills Development Scotland (SDS)

The country’s national skills agency will be bringing together a range of employers and training providers as part of Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2023 (6 to 10 March) to showcase the benefits of work-based learning.

Scottish Apprenticeship Week celebrates the achievements of Scotland’s apprentices, and all those who contribute to their success. The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Unlocking Potential’, recognising how Scottish Apprenticeships are unlocking potential in people and businesses.

The ‘Meet the Apprentice’ event is taking place at Skills Development Scotland, 1-5 Church Street, Inverness, on Tuesday 7 March, from 6:30 to 7:30pm.

This event will give parents, carers and local young people – including those who have left school – the chance to meet with current local apprentices from a range of industries to find out more about their roles, the different opportunities available, and how to apply for vacancies.

The event is free to attend and open to young people across the whole of Inverness, as well as their parents and carers, who want to know more about Scottish Apprenticeships.

Nicola Madej, team leader at SDS Inverness, said: “There are lots of apprenticeship opportunities in the region and beyond, and we want as many young people as possible to benefit.

“A variety of employers across Inverness recruit apprentices regularly, and our Meet the Apprentice event will give parents, carers and young people the chance to find out more about what’s involved in an apprenticeship, and what’s available to them locally.”

Local apprentices will be at the event to talk about their experiences, and SDS careers advisers will be on-hand to talk about different routes and pathways into employment.
