A charity is hoping to bring a new form of addressing mental health issues to the Highlands.

A Scottish charity is to discuss its vision for transforming mental health care at a special seminar in Inverness.

The Joshi Project will host the Imagine Inverness seminar on May 26 at the city’s Royal Highland Hotel.

It will outline its aim to open Scotland’s first Trieste Model-based mental wellbeing hub in the Highland capital.

The Italian city of Trieste has been designated by the World Health Organisation as a “centre of excellence for mental recovery”.

The Joshi Project is named after founder Mark Smith’s daughter, who died in 2020, aged 24.

Speaking about what he hoped to bring about he said: “Our vision is to help the thousands – probably tens of thousands– of people like Joshi, who have so much to give the world, but are stymied by a mental health system that is incapable of helping them when they need it most. Despite its good intentions, the current system too often does more harm than good – as I know only too well.”
