Nairn's splashpad will be officially opened this Friday by a special VIP.

Fundraisers #Teamhamish group shared the news on social media site Instagram, inviting people to join them on Nairn Links at 12.20pm.

Team Hamish raised thousands of pounds worth of cash, firstly in memory of Hamish Hey who died in 2017 aged eight from a rare form of cancer, and later for mum, Susan, who passed away in 2020 from breast cancer.

The message on the groups Instagram said: "Splashpad official opening on Friday September 10 by a very special VIP.

"If possible please be on the Links by 12:20pm."

They continued: "This is a celebration of the huge achievement by you all in the community of Nairn, and further afield.

"Your hard work and countless generous contributions have played a huge part in creating a wonderful tribute to Hamish and Susan and a lasting legacy for Nairn.

"Please come along and be part of this special Nairn day."

"Please also be Covid aware, respect social distancing, and keep within small groups - thank you."
