A classic and vintage car tour around Loch Ness that raises thousands of pounds for charity has been cancelled for a second year running.

The Rotary Club of Inverness Loch Ness blamed the ongoing uncertainty over Covid-19 for the “regrettable” decision, with organisers unsure whether risks and restrictions would have been relaxed sufficiently by the summer.

Since its inception in 2017, the Loch Ness Classic Car tour has raised over £12,000 for various charities.

This year, cancer charity Prostate Scotland were set to benefit from the June 5 event.

With planning for the event almost complete, organisers undertook a detailed risk assessment and decided that cancellation of the 2021 was their only option.

Organiser and Rotary Club past president Nicol Manson said: “We are extremely disappointed to have to cancel the Loch Ness Classic Car Tour for the second year running.

“We were concerned that, even with the possible relaxation of restrictions, the risk of Covid still being passed on among our loyal supporters, not to mention our own club volunteers and the public, was too high.

“Hopefully, we can look forward to running the tour in June 2022. At a time when charities are being deprived of income due to the pandemic, it is distressing that we are unable to assist but they, like ourselves, appreciate that the health and well-being of all concerned is paramount.”
