Three bicycles worth £1400 were stolen from properties in Inverness on March 24, 2021.

But Inverness Sheriff Court heard that a bit of amateur detective work by a victim led to the recovery of the bikes and the arrest of the culprit.

Inverness Sheriff Court was told that photographs were posted on Facebook appealing for information and one response led to 20-year-old Thomas Wilson, of Wellcroft Place, Gorbals, Glasgow being arrested.

Police were then able to recover all three bicycles, fiscal depute Karen Poke told Sheriff Sara Matheson, who deferred sentence on Wilson for a background report and restriction of liberty order assessment.

She noted that Wilson had two previous convictions, one for theft in a higher court.

The sheriff told him: "The theft of pedal cycles in Inverness is becoming of considerable concern to the court and something serious has to be done."

Wilson will appear again on July 14.
