Nairnshire set to commemorate VE day’s 80th anniversary with tribute trail
Commemorations for the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day will take place across Nairnshire this week.
To mark the event on Thursday the Nairnshire Lieutenancy, supported by Nairn Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland, will lead a solemn act of remembrance by laying wreaths at all the war memorials across Nairnshire.
They are inviting the public to join the commemorative services at Croy (9am), Cawdor (9.25am), Ardclach (10am), Auldearn (10.25am), and Nairn (10.50am).
The Lord-Lieutenant of Nairnshire, George Asher, will lay the wreaths on behalf of the nation, accompanied by Lieutenant Colonel Bob Towns MBE DL, President of RBL Nairn, who will say a few words in tribute to the fallen.
Nairn Legion president Bob Towns said: “VE Day 80 is a moment for the community to reflect on the sacrifices made during the Second World War and to honour the courage and resilience of those who served.
“The Lord Lieutenant invites the people of Nairnshire to observe this important milestone and remember the enduring legacy of those who fought for our freedom.”
Nairn Museum will also have a VE DAY 80 Display and open day on Thursday and The Highlanders Museum at Fort George will be running a VE DAY 80 exhibition to mark the anniversary.
