VANDALS have smashed lights and tampered with equipment at an Inverness golf course.

Floodlights have been damaged and other kit has been targeted at Fairways.

Mike Sheffield, on behalf of property management company Amity which manages the course, said that self-employed staff were still working on greens at the course and regular inspections were taking place.

"We opened our new driving range on March 20, and then we had to furlough staff on March 23," he said. "We closed down the range as best we could and moved equipment inside.

"There have been a few cases of minor vandalism at the range, and we will be reporting this to the police."

He continued: "It seems to me that these have been small acts of vandalism carried out by youngsters. We will be able to get things replaced. But the point is, people are still using the course when they shouldn't be. It is not open.

"We have closed down the 18-hole course and is now private property, and the only people using the area now are people walking dogs.

"Neither of the courses are open to the public at the moment, but it seems that people are taking their chances and using them."

Inverness South councillor Duncan Macpherson said he was outraged at the vandalism.

"‪I was disappointed to learn that Fairways has been repeatedly targeted by vandals, wilfully causing damage to equipment during the lockdown," he said.
