Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness homes hit by power cut

Urquhart Castle has closed to visitors for the rest of Saturday after a power cut.

A power cut has taken down electricity to a number of homes and properties on the north side of Loch Ness – including Urquhart Castle.

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks' (SSEN's) Powertrack map is showing a large area south of Drumnadrochit and Lewiston without power.

Urquhart Castle is among the locations affected.

It confirmed this afternoon that it would be closing for the remainder of Saturday as a result.

The outage is the latest in a series of power cuts to hit Highland communities in the last few days as a result of disruption from Storm Babet.

Hundreds of Highlanders have been hit by power cuts each day since the storm first hit, with a host of communities in the Highland Council area affected at one point or another – from Lochaline in the south to Durness in the north.
