A woman has been taken to hospital "for assessment" after a passenger disturbance aboard a train in Wick.

ScotRail cancelled the 12.34pm Wick to Inverness service on Tuesday because of what it described as "passengers causing a disturbance on a train", and added that Police Scotland had attended the scene.

Police Scotland has now confirmed that its officers received a report of "concern for a woman" aboard the train at Wick at around 1.20pm - around three-quarters-of-an-hour after it was originally scheduled to depart.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Around 1.20pm on Tuesday, Police Scotland received a report of concern for a woman on board a train at Wick Railway Station. Officers attended and the woman was conveyed to hospital for assessment.”

No arrests were made, and no further information has been released as to the nature of the incident.

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
