POLICE are investigating after three vehicles were destroyed by fire in Inverness.

One fire appliance was sent to Aird Avenue during the early hours of Saturday following reports that a van and two cars were ablaze.

The alarm was raised at 5.10am and when they arrived at the scene firefighters used two hose reel jets and wore two sets of breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.

The fire crew left the scene at 6am and a Police Scotland spokeswoman said enquiries were ongoing but it was not known yet whether the fire was suspicious.

The van belonged to Gavin MacDonald Flooring and Mr MacDonald appealed for information on Facebook saying: “One of our vans has been set on fire at approx 5am this morning in Aird Avenue, Inverness, if anyone knows anything or saw anything suspicious can they please get in touch.”

Eyewitnesses said no-one was injured during the blaze and residents described the incident as very frightening.

Anyone with any information about the incident is urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
