Inverness gets new flame-grilled chicken restaurant and takeaway as UK chain Maeme’s opens first local outlet after 8-hour Highland Council red tape delay
A new Inverness restaurant/takeaway specialising in flame-grilled chicken is finally open for business this evening – and is extending a special cut-price offer throughout tomorrow (Friday).
Maeme’s had hoped to begin serving its piri-piri specialities at unit 4 of the Eastgate Centre – the latest of more than a dozen UK outlets in the city – before lunchtime today but was left waiting for Highland Council paperwork to be processed.
That meant hungry customers hoping to claim its May 1 offer of half-price meals had to be turned away.
But manager Si contacted the Courier a short time ago to confirm the doors were set to open anytime now, with the discount offer extended.
The prospect of the new restaurant’s arrival has stoked significant interest among locals on social media over the last few months.
Si told us: “We’re really excited to be here in Inverness so it was a little bit frustrating to face the last-minute delay.
“We’re good to go now and we will be offering half-price food, not just this evening through to 11pm closing time, but all-day tomorrow, as we are really grateful to customers for their patience today.”
Maeme’s has entrances both within the interior elevator foyer of the older Eastgate Centre building and facing onto Eastgate Street near where Crown Road and Stephen’s Brae converge.
