SIGNALLING woes in Inverness are now causing major disruption to Far North Line railway journeys, ScotRail has warned.

The train operator had earlier advised passengers of delays of up to 30 minutes following the fault in the Highland capital.

But that disruption has now led to increased delays of up to 45 minutes and also prompted knock-on cancellation of some services.

The operator is also warning that disruption is likely to continue until around 6pm tonight – far later than the initial time of 10am.

A spokesman said: "Services between Inverness and Wick are subject to delays up to approximately 45 minutes, alteration and cancellation."

They added that the 6.18am Wick to Inverness and the 7am Inverness to Wick services were both 45 minutes late. The latter is also bypassing Thurso on its journey north, with one Aarons coach confirmed at Georgemas Junction at 11.30am "to run to Thurso and Wick for passengers on this service".

The 10.41am Inverness to Wick and 4pm Wick to Inverness services are also cancelled.
