A Gaelic hub in the Highland capital could be on the horizon as donors are thanked for raising more than £20,000 towards the initial £50k target.

Cultarlann Inbhir Nis launched the fundraiser earlier this year.

The hope to provide a cultural space for Gaelic speakers in Inverness and from further afar under one roof in the city.

Campaigners hope the £500,000 hub will bring together native speakers, those who have learned the tongue, and those who want to find out more about the language.

Plans include for a cafe with Gaelic speaking staff, a shop, exhibition space, meeting rooms for associated activities and a venue for Ceilidhs and public events.

Margaret Mulholland, from Cultarlann Inbhir Nis, thanked everyone who has donated so far.

She said: "We are delighted to meet this important milestone and we would like to thank each and every person who has contributed so far.

"It is very encouraging but there are still eight days to go so please continue to send in your donations.

"This will be a community owned Gaelic Cultural Centre in a very real sense. Together we can do this."
