A man who was seriously injured during a two-vehicle collision on the A82 had been freed from his vehicle before fire crews arrived on the scene.

The alarm was raised at 9.45am and a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said they were called by the ambulance service at 10.05am.

Four appliances were sent to the incident, but the casualty was out of his vehicle when they arrived.

The collision involved a car and a van and the A82 was closed in both directions, between the West End roundabout in Fort William and North Ballachulish, because of the accident.

It is understood it will be closed for some time.
