UPDATE: Fire crews from seven stations respond to Aviemore house fire

Firefighters remain at the scene of a house fire in Aviemore after a lightning strike this morning.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Strathy that after an initial two-appliance call out the number of vehicles sent to Grampian View this afternoon finally reached as many as seven.

The initial response by crews from Aviemore and Grantown were later joined by colleagues from Kingussie, Tomintoul, Buckie and Inverness.

An appliance equipped with a high-riser arrived from the Highland capital to add an extra dimension to the battle against the flames.

They took hold of the roof quickly after a vicious thunderstorm hit the village on its eastward journey across the country.

There have been no reports of injuries at the family home, with evacuations made in good time according to local observers.

The local social media scene, shocked at the extent of the freak fire, has been full of sympathy this afternoon with many posting their willingness to back any local fund aimed at helping the family get themselves back on their feet.
