An extreme adventurer is more than 48 hours into a record breaking swimming attempt on the world famous Loch Ness.

Ross Edgley has swum 74.4km so far and is continuing the quest to break the record for the longest ever tideless open-water swim.

The attempt is to raise awareness for new Talisker Whisky x Parley project to protect Scottish waters.

A long-distance swimmer and passionate environmentalist Edgley started his swim on Wednesday at 8.51am and has now been swimming for 49 hours, to raise awareness of Talisker Whisky's latest project with partners in ocean conservation, Parley for the Oceans.

Overcoming some challenging conditions with 20 knot winds on the first night and choppy waters, last night temperatures dropped to a chilly five degrees celsius.

Edgley is nearly three quarters of the way there to breaking the world record which is 67 hours 16 minutes.

He hopes to smash the record if he keeps swimming until tomorrow at 4.08am.

Talisker Whisky and Parley's project aims to protect the world beneath the surface of Scotland’s waves, through supporting scientific research that aims to better understand kelp forests’ role as a carbon sink.

Consumers can support Talisker and Parley for the Oceans project to protect Scottish waters by purchasing a bottle of Talisker 10 year old from participating Tesco stores nationwide and online.

For every bottle sold from September 27 to October 17, Talisker will donate £1 to Parley for the Oceans, directly funding research and preserving the sea for generations to come.

Edgley said: ‘I am doing the Swim for the Sea to help raise awareness of Talisker and Parley’s joint mission.

"The longer I’ve been working with Talisker and Parley the more I’ve learnt about sea kelp and how essential the preservation of these magical sea kelp forests are.

"This is the biggest challenge of my career physically and mentally, but the important purpose behind it is really inspiring me to keep going.”
