A car and a recovery vehicle were involved in a crash on the A9 by Glentruim this evening.

The accident occurred at around 6.30pm at the junction south of Newtonmore.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said earlier this evening: “We received a report of a crash involving a car and a recovery vehicle on the A9 at the Glentruim junction at around 6.30pm.

“Emergency services are in attendance and the A9 is closed between Ralia and Dalwhinnie with diversions in placing using the A86 and the A889.

Traffic Scotland is still cautioning motorists to expect delays.

Their latest update states: “The A9 Glentruim is currently restricted in both directions due to a road traffic accident.

“Motorists are advised to use caution on approach.”

Police and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services told the Strathy that crews from Aviemore, Kingussie and Newtonmore’s community response unit attended to assist at the crash site. They were recalled at 9pm.

There is a report on local social media that the road is now open southbound.
