Extensive traffic snarl-ups caused by this morning’s incident on the A9 at the Golden Bridge, have eased to allow the major route to reopen fully by about 12.30pm.

In a 12.40pm update, Traffic Scotland announced the good news for motorists.

And while the A9 northbound is now open Traffic Scotland warned: “There's still slight delays on approach, so please take care on approach.”

At the height of the morning commute there was barely a road in the city that wasn’t affected by the total closure of the A9, and among the slow-moving queues that formed could be seen long distance inter-city coaches that normally would use the A9.
