A96 reopens after one vehicle incident between Inverness and Nairn causes closure for 4½ hours overnight between airport and Hilton of Delnies
A single vehicle is understood to have been involved in an accident that closed the A96 between Inverness and Nairn for more than four hours overnight.
Emergency services were alerted at around 2.26 am after the incident just west of Nairn near the Hilton of Delnies junction with the A96.
The road was closed until around 7 am, with police road blocks in place near Hilton of Delnies and further west at the turn-off to Inverness Airport.
Traffic is now moving freely again in both directions, slower moving close to Nairn.
It is not yet known if anyone was hurt in the accident.
Police and the ambulance service have been contacted for details.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: “We were contacted at 2.26 am and sent two appliances from Nairn to the scene of what I understand was a one-vehicle accident just outside Nairn on the road to Inverness.
“We received the stop message from the crews at 2.46 am.”
