A rude gesture towards his ex-partner earned a man 90 hours of unpaid community work.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Paul Ross (39) of Burnfield Avenue, Grantown on Spey, had turned up uninvited at the Cawdor Road Terrace address of his former girlfriend in Nairn on September 2 last year.

Fiscal Pauline Gair said the woman and a friend had just returned home, saw him in his car and asked why he was there.

“He became aggressive and stuck his middle finger up and behaved in a manner which caused them fear and alarm,” she said.

Solicitor David Patterson said: “They were two people who were not compatible. His offending has slowed somewhat.”

Also imposing a one-year non-harassment order, Sheriff Sara Matheson noted this was his fifth conviction for domestic offending.
