'Unique luxury hotel' plan for Inverness riverside gets go-ahead
An Inverness riverside hotel is set to expand next door and create more spacious accommodation with amazing views to the castle and cathedral.
The Strathness House Hotel at 4 Ardross Terrace (formerly the Tower Hotel), home of the popular Tiger in the Wall restaurant, has applied for planning permission to link with Number 3 next door, opposite Inverness Cathedral.
The project will involve converting the existing vacant ground floor office at Number 3 to be part of a 14-bedroom Strathness House with internal alterations carried out to both buildings and a wood-panelled extension built to the rear.
The application by Mars Projects Ltd has been lodged with Highland Council by agents Farningham Planning Ltd, Edinburgh.
Their planning statement says the conjoining of the buildings will “make a unique luxury hotel along the banks of the River Ness”.
It adds: “Combining the two buildings offers an opportunity for better integrated public areas such as the lobby and restaurant with river-facing views.
“It also increases the number of river-facing bedrooms and gives an enhanced experience for guests. Historically, the buildings had linked interconnections which, over a period of years, were blocked up as a result of separate ownerships.”
The idea is to “restore history” by removing the modern granite and glass ground floor office façade of Number 3 and restoring the original look with similar stone to Number 4.
