Scottish Vet Referrals (SVR), the only independent veterinary referral centre in the Highlands, based at the Inverness Campus, are pleased to welcome two new surgeons.
Donald Yool joined the practice in January. He is a European and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) specialist in small animal soft tissue surgery and one of the most experienced soft tissue surgeons in Scotland. He has previously been the head of soft tissue surgery at both Glasgow and Edinburgh veterinary schools.
Commenting on his new role, Donald said: “I grew up in the north east of Scotland but have been working in the Central Belt for the last 30 years. I have been a European Board of Veterinary Specialisation (EBVS) soft tissue surgeon for the last 21 years with focus on soft tissue procedures such as abdominal and cancer surgery.
“I moved back to the Elgin area around 14 years ago and have been commuting back to Glasgow and Edinburgh since then. Working at Scottish Vet Referrals in Inverness has been a great opportunity for me to refocus some of my working week in the north east."
Dr Roberto Bergamaschi has joined SVR as an orthopaedic surgeon and neurology consultant. Originally graduating with honours in 1998, he worked in both independent hospitals and teaching hospitals in Italy prior to moving to the UK in 2016. He is a RCVS-recognised advanced practitioner in small animal surgery, with a particular interest in small animal orthopaedic and neurology/neurosurgery.
Roberto’s love for his work is obvious with his comment: “I started working at Scottish Veterinary Referrals from March 3 of this year, where I manage cases referred for orthopaedic or neurological problems. For me, working as a consultant in small animal orthopaedic and neurology is not a simple job, but it represents my greatest passion and what I have always dreamed of doing since I was a child, so I consider myself an extremely lucky person."
Kirsten Macleod and Tony Wall, the practice owners, opened SVR in early 2018. Both veterinary ophthalmologists, they continue to work within the practice, which now has a team of 20. Its services include ophthalmology, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, CT imaging, neurology, orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
Kirsten said “We are delighted to have such highly skilled surgeons joining the team here at SVR, further elevating the level of veterinary care we can offer in the Highlands.”
