SUICIDE prevention charity Mikeysline has two new people in charge.

Founder of the Inverness-based charity Ron Williamson has stepped down.

The role of chairwoman has been taken over by Donna Smith (47) who runs her own business improvement service.

Dawn MacDougall, a chartered accountant and head of Ernst and Young’s Inverness office, has become a non-executive chief executive.

Mikeysline was established as a text-for-help service following the suicide of Mr Williamson’s nephew and a spate of other suicides of young people across the Highlands.

It now also runs the Hive drop-in service in Academy Street, Inverness and has won widespread backing for its work, including from Inverness-born Hollywood star Karen Gillan.

Friday’s Inverness Courier will include an in-depth interview with Mrs Smith and Mrs MacDougall about their future plans.
