Covid-19 update.

TWO more cases of Covid-19 have been recorded across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of known infections rose from 5170 to 5172 when the latest daily figures were released on Thursday.

There were 270 new cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours, representing 1.2 per cent of all tests carried out over that period.

Sixty-three people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – down two from Wednesday.

Four of those were in intensive care, which was also down two.

But sadly one fresh death has been reported among people who previously tested positive.

Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were again no new cases in NHS Shetland and NHS Orkney, but there was one new positive test in NHS Eileanan Siar – its first confirmed case since late March. It has now recorded 235 known infections since the start of the pandemic.

NHS Grampian’s cumulative number of cases rose by seven, to 15,255.

And there were 13 positive tests across NHS Tayside, for a running total of 14,790.

There have now been 228,693 confirmed cases of the virus across Scotland since the global pandemic began.

Almost 2.97 million Scots have now received their first Covid jag, while more than 1.55 million have had their second vaccination injection.
