Fundraisers smashed both their money and time goals when they pedalled the North Coast 500 non-stop in aid of the Archie Foundation.

Ewan MacDonald, of MacDonald Group, and Gavin Johnston, of Inverness Taxis, beat their target time of 40 hours by five hours – and surpassed their £10,000 fundraising target by £189.

Mr MacDonald said the fundraising challenge for the children's hospital charity Archie Foundation had been tough physically and mentally, but the public support had been incredible.

“The whole experience has been really humbling,” he said.

“Archie is a fantastic charity and has touched the lives of so many people in the Highlands.”

He said they could not have done it without his brother Ross MacDonald and Eric Innes, who acted as support crew.

They called at the Highland Children’s Unit to hand over the money to Dawn Cowie, Archie Highland fundraising officer, and Mary Nimmo, chairwoman of the Highland fundraising board

“I know both Ewan and Gavin put a lot of training into this cycle and I am delighted they managed to each their fundraising goal as well as smashing their time target,” Ms Cowie said.
