Two planning applications that attracted public objections but are recommended for approval by planning officers are due to be decided by councillors this week.

Martin Noble wants to build a 1.5-storey house at the end of the cul-de-sac east of Woodstock, Moss-side, Nairn.

His application attracted 22 letters of representation from 11 households plus a late representation from Nairn and Suburban Community Council.

Concerns raised include fears that additional vehicle traffic would damage the private access road, cause subsidence and impact on road safety.

Objectors also cite worries about the size and orientation of the house being disproportionate to the shape of the plot and out of character with the surrounding homes as well as what they feel would be a negative effect on amenity and sunlight for a neighbouring property; water pressure in the area already being stretched, and loss of privacy.

At 11 Glebe Road, also in Nairn, Mr K Macmillan has applied to alter the house there by raising the roof to add a first floor, instal dormers and extend the garage.

There were six objections, a number of which raise concerns about the potential for being overlooked by the higher house and the impact that the proposed changes to the fabric of the building would have on the character of the street.

Members of Highland Council’s south planning applications committee will consider both cases on Thursday.
