Police Scotland officers in the Highlands charge two people in connection with passing counterfeit bank notes in Tain, Ross-shire; charges follow a recent warning to the public over fake notes after incidents in Inverness and Beauly

POLICE have charged two people in connection with passing fake bank notes.

The charges, which relate to an incident in Tain only, follow recent police warnings for the public to beware counterfeit notes.

Highland officers had issued their earlier warnings following several reports of fake notes being handed over in the likes of Inverness and Beauly.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Following recent reports of counterfeit bank notes being tendered in Inverness and Ross-shire areas, [we] can update that two people will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal in relation to presenting counterfeit notes in Tain."

They added: "It is imperative that business owners remain vigilant in checking the validity of money tendered and contact police should they have any concerns.

Police can be contacted by phone on 101 or via the Police Scotland website at www.scotland.police.uk .

Anonymous reports can also be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
