Twenty-two new Covid-19 infections have been detected across NHS Highland in the past day

The region’s cumulative number of confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic rose from 4504 to 4526 when the latest daily update was published today.

The number of people receiving treatment for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals fell increased by one to 29. The number of those in intensive care remained unchanged on five for a third day.

There were 803 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – representing 4.46 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

Some 1154 people were being treated for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night.

Of those, 102 were in intensive care. This was up four from Friday’s update.

And sadly there were 29 further deaths among people who tested positive for the virus in the past 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases of the virus in the Northern Isles or Western Isles.

There were 25 new infections in NHS Grampian, which has now recorded 13,256 confirmed cases since last spring.

And NHS Tayside’s total rose to 12,878 after it registered 22 cases in the past 24 hours.

There have now been 196,642 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Another 26,491 people received their first dose of the vaccine in the most recent 24 hour window. This has taken the total to 1,412,643.

A total of 33,473 people have received a second dose.
