Twelve new cases of Covid-19 detected in the NHS Highland area; increase comes amid the backdrop of a sharp rise in cases in Scotland, which reported 806 new positive tests for coronavirus
A DOZEN more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the NHS Highland area in the past day.
The number of cumulative cases recorded in the region since the beginning of the pandemic rose from 634 to 646 when the latest daily update was published this afternoon.
Across Scotland there were 806 positive tests – or 11.5 per cent of those who were newly-tested.
The figure is up sharply from Monday's update of 222, although at the time First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned that this lower figure might have been caused by a weekend lag in test results.
The number of people in hospital yesterday with recently-confirmed Covid-19 increased slightly, up one to 123. But those in intensive care fell, down two to 14. There were also no new deaths reported among those who had tested positive.
Elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were two new positive tests in NHS Eileanan Siar, which has now recorded 28 cases in total. NHS Orkney also had a new diagnosis (raising its total to 23), although NHS Shetland recorded no fresh cases over the same period.
There was a big daily rise in NHS Grampian, which added 54 new cases overnight for an overall total of 2275.
And NHS Tayside recorded an increase of 50, for a running tally of 2483.
The biggest rises were in the central belt, with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (302), NHS Lothian (180) and NHS Lanarkshire (91) accounting for more than 70 per cent of Scotland's latest cases.
The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 across the whole of Scotland since the start of the pandemic now stands at 28,604.
