Pupils at a performance school in Inverness are set to enjoy the rare opportunity to learn more about the craft from a real-life star of stage and screen.

Scottish-born actor Cameron Jack (49) has dozens of screen credits to his name including big screen blockbusters The Dark Knight Rises and Dragonheart, with directors Guy Ritchie and Christopher Nolan, and award-winning actress Glenn Close, among the big names he has worked with.

He has also appeared in top TV series including EastEnders, Casualty, The Bill, Taggart, Still Game, Emmerdale, Outlander, Call the Midwife, Silent Witness and many more and has been part of the casts of a host of major theatrical productions including We Will Rock You – where he was part of the original cast – Les Miserables, Trainspotting, Richard III and South Pacific in the West End.

Despite all of that he will take time out of his busy schedule to teach for two days at a Highland capital acting summer school being run by TFX, giving a masterclass on producing a showreel for students aged between seven and 18 on July 15 and 16.

An experienced teacher of screen acting technique alongside everything else, he has taught children of all ages all over the UK and is the screen acting tutor at Performers College in Essex and Reynolds Performing Arts in Dartford, Kent.

On day one of the acting masterclass Mr Jack intends to look at self taping for audition tapes.

Then on the second day he will talk about breaking into the ultra-competitive American market, in particular by using self-taped audition reels.

His sessions will conclude with a question and answer session with pupils.

Mr Jack said: "There is so much talent in Scotland.

"Times are changing, with self taping becoming more popular.

"Now is a great time for people from the north to get into TV and film."

The performance school’s principal, Sally Robertson, said: "I first met Cameron when I was one of the producers of the pantomime at Eden Court Theatre and he played Aladdin.

"Since then he has excelled in the world of TV and film."

And assistant principal Kayleigh Redford said: "Opportunities like this are seldom on offer in this part of the country.

"There are plenty of acting/drama courses in Highland, especially with the expansion of the University of the Highlands and Islands, but screen acting is a whole genre of its own.

"We are delighted that Cameron has chosen to share his skills with local talent and hope that as many people as possible can benefit."

Mr Jack is next due to appear on the big screen later this month when he appears alongside all-round action man Jason Statham in his latest blockbuster, Wrath of Man.
