AN Inverness taxi firm bagged a hat-trick of trophies at a national industry awards ceremony in Glasgow.

Inverness taxis was awarded Scottish cab company of the year, medium company of the year and owner Gavin Johnston was presented with a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Scottish Taxi, Private Hire and Chauffeur Awards.

Mr Johnston said he was not expecting to win three awards – especially not to win the lifetime achievement category. He said: “I know I am getting on but I’m not that old.

“That was a shock. It didn’t even sink in straightaway – the lifetime achievement was the first award that we got – it was a surprise.”

He said it was nice to be recognised for his 34 years in the industry and as a company Inverness Taxis tried to do work to help the wider community.

“I am pretty active in voicing my opinions,” he said. “We are quite good at what we do here in Inverness on the marketing side of things. We are a taxi company and we need the city to be busy – if it’s not busy we are not busy – so we will continue to promote the city.”

The company has also been quick to embrace innovation and new technology – it was the first firm to introduce electric taxis – and all of its drivers are first aid trained. He said: “We promote events and we are very much behind the city.”

Mr Johnston said he was also surprised when they won the medium company award but the one they were all hoping to win was the Scottish cab company trophy.

He said: “When we got the medium company I thought we weren’t going to get it then the announcer said ‘it’s a hat-trick for Inverness Taxis’ which was great – a nice hat-trick.”
