Metal detecting enthusiasts came together to host a special dig to raise money for an Inverness charity.

Donald Maclennan and George Macdonald from North Detectorists Metal Detecting, a group dedicated to the activity, hosted the dig for the Highland Hospice at Balnuren Farm in Culloden.

The group managed to raise £504.39 through selling sunflowers, hospice badges, stickers and also asking members to pay a fee to dig.

Wendy Morgan, communications officer at the hospice, said: “Thank you so much to Donald Maclennan and George Macdonald from the North Detectorists Metal Detecting Facebook Group who came in to present this cheque to our fundraising administrator Francesca Marchetti.

“The group held a dig earlier this month in aid of the hospice which raised a wonderful £504.39, so a huge thanks goes to all involved!”

Mr Macdonald said: “Everyone has lost or knows someone lost to this horrible disease [cancer].

“It’s personal for me, I lost my sister when she was only 36.

“So the hospice need every penny towards their fantastic work.”
